Traditional Awnings utilise a spring barrel to help retract the awning and keep it fabric taught, the awning is usually pulled out with a wooden pole that has a hook on the end of it.

Traditional Awnings are very reliable if looked after correctly, they can still be manufactured today from components that are made the same traditional way they were over 100 years ago.
